My first trip to Santiago was on honeymoon. I and my wife had a great time there, but this is another blog’s topic. What I want to state here is tips about where staying at Santiago, Chile. I think it could be helpful to you considering I’ve traveled to Chile many times after that first trip. Maybe that’s why some of my friends usually say I am not Brazilian, but Chilean. Somehow it sounds true. Some of those trips were just on vacation, other business. But whatever the reason is, it’s always a pleasure to me. Santiago is not so far away from my living city (Brasília, Brazil), about 4 hours by plane. However, it has a singular atmosphere. I do have a connection with Chile.
So where to stay? Tips are:
· Being based closed to a metro station is a good choice. Santiago is an extensive city with many diverse neighborhoods and a high-quality subway transport system. It is safe and cheap. And many subway lines all over the city allow you to move fast from a tourism’s spot to another one. Even to go to the some wineries (viñas in Spanihs) at “countrised” of Santiago is possible by metro, such as Viñas Cousino Macul and Aquitania (please see another blog’s topic about it). But don’t forget that taxi is typically cheap there.
· At Santiago my preference is staying in an apart-hotel. Despite some biggest hotel chains exist there, as well as fascinating Chilean hotels and boutique hotels also, there are many wonderful apart-hotels’ options. They are very common and abundant in Santiago. Basically, in all apart-hotel you may choose from an standard room to an one or two bedroom apartment including comfortable room, bathroom, living room and fully equipped kitchen. This is very convenient when travelling with family. And also alone in a business trip because it transmits me that feeling like being at home. You may find out many apart-hotels at Google for instance. I also love Booking and Tripadvisor websites.
· The neighborhood: Providencia, of course. It’s tranquil, calm and at the same time with good vibration on streets. Full of places to eat, from snacks, sandwiches and other cheap food options like as New York pizzas’ style to fancy restaurants. Many choices for shopping, services etc. Surrounded by important business and commercial places. In Providencia’s area you will find the “Costanera Center” which is the newest mall connected to a skyscraper building (please see “shopping” topic to get more malls options in Santiago). Other neighborhoods I like are Vitacura and Las Condes, but I still prefer Providencia. Areas such as Recoleta, Santiago downtown and Bellavista are very good to visit and to get liveliest of Santiago, but not to stay in my option.
